Started preparing dial tone recovery process in both Exchange Server 2007 and Exchange Server 2010. For this initially I had to install Windows Server Backup (WSB) which we are going to see in this article, I know this might be very easy but still it may help to beginners. Let’s see what it is:

Windows Server Backup : The Windows Server Backup feature in Windows Server 2008 consists of a Microsoft Management Console (MMC) snap-in and command-line tools that provide a complete solution for your day-to-day backup and recovery needs. You can use four wizards to guide you through running backups and recoveries. You can use Windows Server Backup to back up a full server (all volumes), selected volumes, or the system state. You can recover volumes, folders, files, certain applications, and the system state. And, in case of disasters like hard disk failures, you can perform a system recovery, which will restore your complete system onto the new hard disk, by using a full server backup and the Windows Recovery Environment.

Key Features of WSB:

  • Faster backup technology
  • Simplified restoration
  • Simplified recovery of your operating system
  • Ability to recover applications
  • Improved scheduling
  • Offsite removal of backups for disaster protection
  • Remote administration
  • Automatic disk usage management
  • Extensive command-line support
  • Support for optical media drives and removable media

Install WSB using windows Powershell:

Open windows powershell –> Import Server Manger Module as it shows in the below image –>Enter

Add-WindowsFeature Backup –> Enter

Install WSB using GUI:

Start–> Administrative Tools –> Server Manager –> Right Click Features–> Add Features

Choose Windows Server Backup–> Next

Click Install

Click Close

Now you can see Windows Server Backup has successfully installed. You can see this under administrative tools as like this:
